What Is Article Marketing?
If you are new to article marketing then this article should fill you in on what it is and how important it can be for your business.
The History of Article Marketing.
Writing articles to promote your business has always been around, long before the advent of internet. But here I will look at the articles from the standpoint of publishing them online.
It was not so long ago that article marketing became very popular among internet marketers, it was a simple way to generate backlinks to your website. The more backlinks you had to your website the higher Google would rank your page.
"It's like a huge popularity contest!"
The internet is indeed like a popularity contest. The more backlinks you have to your website the higher you will be ranked in the search engines.
This thinking gave birth to a huge amount of auotmated software to write articles and build huge amounts of backlinks at the click of a button. You can still buy services from vendors who are promoting backlink services for your website.
But this no longer counts as building backlinks!
Google have recognised what was happening and built new algorithms to combat this sort of abuse.
It comes to quality over quantity. Google don't only take into consederation the total number of backlinks to rank your website anymore. The backlinks have to be quality backlinks, that is they have come from a decent ranked website. Perhaps in an article written about your website or service.
It is still a popularity contest, except the rules have changed to combat abuse of the system. More changes will inevitably come in the future and we should expect this. These changes are always great for the "ethical" internet marketer who cares about quality. The other who jump and scream about these changes are nearly always abusing the system in one way or another. Changes are made solely for the purpose of giving the user a better experience when searching the internet for relevant information.
You may be wondering what backlinks are? They are simply a link that has been provided in another website, that if a user clicks on it they are taken to your website.
I am not saying that building backlinks is a waste of time now, it is definetely not, however always take into consideration the quality of the links. A very well written article with a link to your website, placed on a high ranking website is what really counts.
In my coaching program I outline lots ways to build QUALITY BACKLINKS that do count towards your page rank in google. Therefore getting your website a higher PR in google and other search engines.
Now let us look at what article marketing is now.
When you write a good quality article and have it published on a article submission website you are doing a couple of things. You are providing a good resource for your reader of quality information and a link to your website where the reader can click through and view other great and relevant information.
I look at aricle marketing a little differently than just building backlinks. I look at it from the standpoint of providing quality information, information which is both relevant and needed by the reader to enhance their own education. Doing this brings a lot of benefits both to yourself and your business.
Look at it from the readers point of view, if they find your article and read it and they get something out of it, then they are more likely to click through to your website. Hopefully on your website there will be lots more great, quality stuff for them to read and enjoy.
An article is the opening for your business. You are putting your best foot foward so best make sure it's good otherwise you may lose a potential client. And that means money in your pocket!
Targeted Traffic.
One great advantage of article marketing is that of targeted traffic. Reader's will only read your article if they are interested in the topic which it is written about. This type of targeted traffic costs money through paid advertising, it costs nothing using article marketing strategies. That is the beauty of it.
Building Brand Awareness.
Using article marketing to build brand awareness is a great way to get the word out about your new product or service. If you have lots of articles published about the same product you are going to get more eyeballs seeing what you are trying sell.
Organic Traffic.
Another great benefit of article marketing is that you get more organic traffic to your website. What i mean by organic is that your articles will be found in the search engines and when people read and click through to your website, they are classed as organic. You did not have pay a penny to get them.
